This stuff is pure sunshine! Drinking this tonic daily will help you to detox and cleanse your body, increase your energy levels, fight off colds this winter and basically feel “super human”. I warn you though, this is not for the faint hearted, and if you’re just starting out with apple cider vinegar, it does take a little getting used to.
Apple Cider Vinegar
It’s believed that apple cider vinegar assists with detoxification by aiding circulation and boosting the liver’s ability to purge toxins. The acids found in apple cider vinegar are said to be responsible for the cleansing effects, eliminating impurities by binding to free radicals and other toxins stored in the blood, fat cells and organs, and ‘pulling them out’ of the body.
So which apple cider vinegar should you buy? To get all those health benefits, always choose unpasteurised, raw organic apple cider vinegar with the ‘Mother’. The ‘Mother’ is made up of strand-like enzymes of connected protein molecules with living nutrients and bacteria, similar to the scoby that’s in Kombucha.
Turmeric is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, considered to be a whole body cleansing herb. In traditional medicine, turmeric is used to support digestive health, treat fever, infections and inflammation of the body. Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric that has been shown to have similar effects as anti-inflammatory medicine.
Fresh versus dried turmeric? Well, fresh is always best, but if you don’t have any, use organic powdered turmeric. This recipe uses fresh, but you can sub 1 tablespoon of powdered turmeric instead. For the full effect of awesomeness, the fresh root is what you really want to be using.
Duke concluded, after reviewing some 700 studies, that turmeric seemingly outperforms many pharmaceuticals in its effects against several chronic diseases. Turmeric aids digestion, especially of fats, promotes healthy cholesterol levels, reduces high blood pressure, and is known to have anti-viral properties.
Ginger is an amazing root that you can get from pretty much every supermarket now, so you don’t have to go out of your way to find it. Ginger also has antibiotic effects and can help with digestion, detoxification, infections, inflammation, joint pain, circulation, nausea (also pregnancy nausea) and motion sickness.
