If you have not discovered the pure joy that is frozen bananas, you need to try this. If you have, then you’ll definitely want to make this! Making banana ‘ice cream’ is probably one of the best things you can do with bananas, or a close second to banana bread!

Surprisingly, bananas blitz relatively easier when frozen, and make an awesome ice cream substitute. Frozen bananas can be used to make your smoothies super thick too. Because this recipe uses cacao powder, this is literally like eating chocolate ice cream… for breakfast!

While this recipe is featured under the breakfast section, you could eat it any time of the day. Why not? It’s healthy, plus the buckwheat boosts the nutrient content too.

Raw cacao powder is un-refined and contains high levels of magnesium, iron and dietary fibre. Raw cacao powder is made by cold pressing un-roasted cacao beans, which means the nutrients remain. Cocoa powder, on the other hand, has been refined and therefore not nutritionally as good.

Banana is the only sweetener used here, no refined sugars! So this healthy breakfast bowl is going to help keep your sugar levels stable. Simply blitz all the ingredients together until creamy and top with buckwheat and you’re done!


2 bananas, peeled, sliced and frozen

½ cup Organic Sunflower Seeds

¼ cup Organic RAW Cacao Powder

Organic Kasha (for topping)

Organic RAW Whole Almonds (for topping)


Throw all ingredients in a blender and process on high into a thick creamy mixture, similar to ice cream.

Top bowl with almonds and buckwheat groats, enjoy.
